Stocks of primary ingot, billet, slab and alloy products at three main ports have stood at 277,800-n280,000 mt at the end of January, up from 247,300-253,300 mt a month earlier , and at 32-month nhigh, traders said. Japanese trade and consumer sources said the por t stocks have swelled due to na time lag between reduction in demand and cuts in the supplied volumes. “Ships arriving from nAustralia in January were carrying December shipments.” Meanwhile, an overseas producer and a nJapanese trader said they saw the current spot Japanese premiums at around $112/mt plus LME ncash CIF Japan. “We have not seen any change,” said the producer . The Platts spot aluminium npremiums stayed at $110-112/mt plus LME cash CIF Japan, unchanged since December 14.
