The Platts alumina price continuednMonday at $305/mt FOB Australia,nunchanged from Friday, as market activitynslowed on the back of recent price volatilitynon the London Metal Exchange. Offersnand bids were lacking Monday. Somentraders and consumers indicated possiblenbuy interest at $295-305/mt, butnsaid sell interest remained at $305-310mt. “We were approached by sellers, butnthey didn’t make an offer, they asked fornour bids instead. We think $300-305mt is a good level to start talking, butnthat’s probably too low for sellers. Wenbelieve they’re looking at $305-310/mt,”na Chinese trader said. Another Chinesentrader agreed: “Buyers are mostly lookingnat $300/mt and below now. There’s nonreal rush to buy since Chinese domesticnprices are also weak.” An Asian consumernsaid he was holding out for aroundn$295/mt. “That’s a bit too optimistic,” anproducer source said, and concurred thatnmost sellers were probably still lookingnat $305-310/mt.
