Indonesia’s tin industry export ban is having a rapid and palpable effect on the market, Barclays nCapital said Tuesday. Under the ban, producers have halted exports until the tin price hits n$25,000/mt. Since the ban’s early October start, the tin price has shot up nearly 30% from a late nSeptember low at $17,000/mt, the bank said. “Moreover , and perhaps most critical, rather than nbeing simply a virtual embargo, it has had a clear fundamental effect in a short amount of time.” nThe ban has come at a time when China needs to restock tin, Barclays said, hence, the recent n4,500 mt decline in LME stocks.
