Quanex’s aluminum sheet unit saw reduced net nsales and operating income in the fiscal fourth nquarter versus a year ago due to lower ship-nments, lower painted sales, and higher repair nand maintenance expenses, the company said nMonday. Fiscal Q4 operating income for the nperiod ending October 31 was $3.1 million ver-nsus $10.5 million a year earlier. Q4 net sales ndropped to $106.2 million from $123.3 million nin Q4 2010. Volumes shipped were 66 mil-nlion lbs in Q4 down from 88 million lbs a year nbefore. “Results were down from the year-ago nquarter due to weaker demand, in part because nof the absence of the window-related tax credit nthis quarter compared to the available credit last nyear,” Quanex said.
