After losing more than $30 last week, nCOMEX gold futures saw another major nselloff in Monday trading, as warnings of npossible eurozone downgrades and the nwell-worn market jitters over the euro-nzone’s debt problems boosted the US ndollar, and pushed gold prices into another nfreefall. Gold for February delivery, the nactive month, plunged $48.60 to settle nat $1,668.20/oz. March silver was also nhit hard, spiraling $1.25 lower to settle at n$31/oz. “Gold is probably going to [trade nin] choppy ranges for the rest of the year,” na trader told Platts. “The European Union nis getting downgraded left and right and nthat’s making for a stronger dollar and nputting a lot of pressure on gold.”
