NYMEX platinum and palladium futures nclosed mixed Wednesday after pal-nladium slid further from its intraday nhighs. Platinum for July delivery, the nactive month, settled $1/oz higher at n$1,797.80/oz after rising to the $1,816 nlevel on the back of a rally in COMEX gold nand silver, but failing to break through. nPrices then slid for the remainder of nthe session before finding support near n$1,790. But palladium for June delivery nlost $8.50/oz to close at $784.60/oz nafter a slide from its intraday high near nthe $800 level. Numerous traders and nanalysts dismissed recent declines in pal-nladium given the price surge over the past nyear. Questions about Japanese auto pro-nduction and sales in East Asia following nthe earthquake last month remain key for npalladium investors, the trader said.
