摘要

COMEX gold futures staged a major nrebound Thursday after a selloff earlier in nthe week -- moving up more than $18 -- as nsobering economic data released in the US Thursday on unemployment and prices nsparked another big flurry of buying into the nsafe-haven metal. Gold for June delivery njumped $18.20 to $1,473.80/oz, close to nits day’s high at $1,474.80/oz, after clos-ning at $1,455.60/oz Wednesday. In after-nhours trading, June gold was up $16.80 nto $1,472.40/oz as of 1:55 pm EDT, after nachieving a session high at $1,475.20oz. May silver rose $1.48 to $41.73oz Thursday. “A good part of [gold’s rally] nwas based on the US jobless claims and nthe [Consumer Price Index],” a trader told nPlatts, both of which rose in March. The ntrader added that gold’s Thursday rally was nalso helped by a modest rebound in crude noil prices and a sharp surge in silver prices. n“Silver outperformed gold significantly ntoday, so that helped to pull gold higher,” nhe added. The continued pummeling nsustained by the US dollar against the neuro was likely an additional factor lifting ngold, he said. The dollar retreated to the nupper 1.44 level Thursday from the lower n1.44 level earlier in the week. US jobless nclaims for the week ending April 9 totaled n412,000, an increase of 27,000 from the nprevious week, the US Labor Department nsaid. Meanwhile, the US producer price nindex climbed a seasonally adjusted 0.7% nin March, following a 1.6% gain in February, nthe agency said. NYMEX May crude oil nfutures rebounded 45 cents to $107.56/b nThursday.
