There are 26 Local Voluntary Welfare Groups around the Province. They look after the welfare of retired officers, their spouses, widows and others from the wider Police Family. An important aspect also of all Groups is holding social events for the enjoyment and benefit of all members. Each of the 26 Groups are entitled to have a representative on the Steering Committee which has adopted the role of a combined voice to and from RUCGC-PSNI Benevolent Fund Board via the Benevolent Fund Secretary. At a Steering Committee meeting in September 2018, Les Chambers, the Steering Committee representative on the RUCGC Foundation Stakeholders Committee raised an issue that; There had been several complaints from visiting Groups about a lack of seating in the RUCGC Memorial Garden at the National Arboretum, in Staffordshire. The cost of a seating bench, including placement on a solid base was £1,200.
