In early February, the Obama administration demonstrated their desire to toughen air pollution rules by reversing the Bush administration's executive orders and filing papers with the U.S. Supreme Court removing the executive appeal of a ruling that would have resulted in relaxing mercury emissions from power plants.rnLast year, an appeals court ruled that the Bush plan to allow utilities to purchase emission credits for mercury emissions violated current law. The Supreme Court was scheduled to take up the issue next month. The EPA released a statement that the agency would soon begin crafting a new rule that would limit mercury emissions.
