"This car ain't fixable. You need to come pick up this piece of [expletive deleted]." Those aren't words typically uttered about PHR feature cars, but that's exactly what a sandblaster told Scott Teeters about his '68 Camaro. Those were harsh words for a man who devoted the last 20 years of his life to raising a family and running his own business, Scott's first foray back into the world of hot rodding wasn't starting out the way he'd hoped and the reality began to sink in. "I just got burned. I knew the car was rusted, but I had no idea how bad it was until I started pulling the carpet," admits Teeters. Scott's daughters knew how bad it was and they reacted to their father's new ride with a simulated gagging display. Of course, no project would be complete without the helpful Wilson-esque neighbor (Craig Barley), who was always available to lend a hand, while simultaneously telling Scott his brilliant ideas weren't feasible. Why didn't Scott cut Ms losses and move on? Because so many people told him it wasn't possible. In fact, that feedback motivated him to build the car even better than he originally planned. Scott's iron-clad resolve would continue to be tested after what was left of the car came back from the sandblaster. Scott and Vance Frasier would spend hundreds of hours over the next nine months welding and fabricating replacement body panels for every part of the car with the exception of the firewall and the trunk lid, which were the only parts that hadn't been totally ruined by corrosion. Their work was further complicated by a lack of necessary parts. "Four years ago, no one made convertible quarter panels or rockers, which are one and a half inches wider than a coupe rocker," recalls Teeters. That meant Teeters and Frasier had to buy replacement panels designed for a coupe and modify them to work on his convertible.
