Q: I found a postcard of the City of Portsmouth that is stamped by your society. Do you have more information about it? A: In SSHSA's earlier days, it was common for file copies of collection negatives to be printed on postcard paper, and duplicates on file were frequently sold and traded, so that maybe how yours eventually came to you. It's a cropped version of a broader photo from the Garland W. Patch collection, showing the City of Portsmouth and a second small excursion vessel at an unnamed island in the Isle of Shoals in 1882, with excursionists seated on rocks in the foreground. There is a second vessel at the nearby pier, possibly a steam yacht, whose name is unfortunately obscured by the rocks.
