Interaction between buildings and structures and the environment, primarily with the geomass, occurs during their construction and service life. The geomass can be characterized by strength, temperature, pore-pressure, and other fields. On the whole, economic activity is a source of anomalous temperature, stray-current, chemical- and radioactive-effect, and other fields, and the hydrologic regime, which is also characterized by variation of the pore-pressure (hydraulic) field, is altered. Variation in temperature (usually an increase in temperature as compared with background values) is one of the basic manifestations of the unfavorable state of a geomass. The following technogenic factors may be the cause of an anomalous temperature field: leakage from heat-supply lines, heating of the natural ground water by heat sources, release of industrial water into water-bearing horizons, and heating as a result of chemical reactions or stray currents. An anomalous temperature field indicates the development of negative processes in the geomass. It is therefore necessary to account for the state of the temperature field of a geomass during the service life and construction of buildings and structures.
