摘要

Massive reinforced-concrete structures, which have characteristic features and which are distinguished from conventional reinforced-concrete structures, have come into widespread use in hydraulic construction. Massive reinforced-concrete structures are characterized by significant clearance dimensions (more than 1 m), a reduced reinforcement content (1% and less), comparatively low grades of concrete (V25 and lower), large effective-reinforcement diameters, etc. One of the basic features characteristic of virtually all massive structures is the existence of contact construction joints, which make themselves felt negatively on the behavior and condition of these designs, and structures on the whole. The existence of construction joints weakens the design and structures on the whole, and diminishes their strength and reliability while in service. Special measures are taken to reinforce the contact in the zone of the joints by removing the cement film, installing keyways and batters, etc. The strength of the joints is also increased with the use of reinforcing rods intersecting the contact joints. Shearing, compressive, and tensile forces, including their different combinations, may act on a contact joint, depending on the type of design, and the character of the load and its location. Provision for the required shear strength of the concrete joint is one of the most important problems.
