Scottish and Southern Energy has bought Airtricity for ￡1.09 billion, the company said this month. The deal, subject to regulatory approval, implies an equity value of ￡806 million for the business. SSE will also assume Airtricity's net debt of ￡280 million. Airtricity has 308 MW of wind farms in operation across the UK and Ireland, which, added to SSE's current capacity of 170 MW, will make SSE the biggest operator across the British Isles. In addition, the deal will give SSE a 187-MW portfolio of onshore wind farms in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland which have full consent and are under construction, a further 104 MW of onshore wind energy capacity in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland which has full consent but is not yet under construction.
