Centrica says that it has paid ￡20 million for a 10% stake in Ceres Power - an AIM-listed business developing combined heat and power systems based on solid-oxide fuel cell technology. Centrica, which has effectively paid 300p per share for the stake, is also to pay ￡5 million to Ceres Power in staged payments between now and 2011 to support the development of the CHP units. The first payment of ￡1 million will be made following Ceres Power's shareholder approval of the deal - scheduled to take place on February 1. The remaining ￡4 million is conditional upon the achievement of specific technical milestones being hit over the next four years.
