The UK government said it would allow "geopressure" electricity generation to retain its support through the Renewables Obligation Certificate (ROC) scheme. Geopressure uses the natural pressure of gas running through pipelines and pressure reduction stations to generate electricity, like water turning a water-wheel. It does not burn the gas. The announcement to allow geopressure to retain support and receive a single ROC per unit of output follows a recent consultation on the reform of the Renewables Obligation.
