Lewis Wind Power, a joint venture between British Energy and Amec, has announced that it has signed an initial agreement with Edinburgh based wind turbine manufacturer REpower UK for turbines for its planned project on the Isle of Lewis. The Memorandum of Understanding is dependent on planning permission from the Scottish government being granted for the 651-MW wind farm - and an order being placed for more than 150 REpower wind turbines. The deal could open the way for the turbine towers for the proposed Lewis Wind Farm being manufactured at the Arnish facility, near Stomoway on the Isle of Lewis. As PUK went to press, there were speculative reports that Scottish Ministers were set to turn down the project.
