Charity Oxfam this month praised the environmental efforts of National Grid while criticising those of E.ON UK. The report, Forecast for Tomorrow, looks at a wide-ranging environmental policy issues in the UK and the environmental performance of a select group of companies, including two in the power sector. It praises 'world-beating' examples from government agencies and companies such as Defra, BT, National Grid and Marks and Spencer while slamming those of the likes of E.ON and Shell. Oxfam chief executive Barbara Stocking said: "The UK has been playing a pivotal role in trying to get a global climate deal in place but we have to get our own house in order and companies like E.ON and Shell must reconsider their potentially destructive plans. Strong decisions in boardrooms and Whitehall must be made over the next few months to ensure that we meet the challenges of climate change and begin to give the people we work with the chance for a better flood and famine free future."
