Renewable energy is now regarded as a "mainstream" asset class and has developed a mature global financing market, speakers at a London renewables conference said this month.rnBut the market is as susceptible as any other to the recent credit downturn, they said, so there is no outright certainty about its continued growth.rnSpeaking at the 9th Renewable Energy Financing Forum, Michael Liebreich, chairman and CEO of New Energy Finance, said that the £46 billion of investment in renewable energy globally in 2007 - representing around 10% of the overall investment in the energy sector - was a strong indicator of the market's recent development.
