The UK planning system is holding back "a dramatic escalation of renewable energy," Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform John Hutton, said this month.rnAddressing the Fabian Society on September 17, Hutton called for radical reform of the regulations in order to reduce carbon emissions, arguing that it is unacceptable that it can take ten years from an application for a wind farm being made to energy being delivered to the grid.rn"We are frustratingly close to a dramatic escalation of renewable energy in the UK but it's being held back by a snail's pace planning system," the speech reads.
