Investment bank UBS has issued a reduced forecast for CO_2 allowance prices during Phase 2 of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) (2008-12).rnThe bank forecasts an EU Allowance (EUA) price for 2008 of €25 per metric ton. For 2009-10, the bank predicted the price would drift down to €20/mt before picking up in 2012 to reach €30/mt. All these prices represented a cut of €5/mt on UBS' previous guidance.rnCarbon credits bought in from outside the EU are the main concern. EU governments and ETS participants can meet a portion of their emission targets by buying credits generated by Joint Implementation and Clean Development Mechanism (JI/CDM) projects.
