Californian energy giant Clipper Windpower is to develop a new generation of giant offshore wind turbines in the North East of England.The Regional Development Agency One North East has agreed to invest a £5 million package of support into Clipper's 'Project Britannia' - a plan to develop an enormous (7.5 MW) offshore wind turbine. Clipper Windpower is to use facilities at the New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) in Blyth, Northumberland to construct the prototype offshore turbine - dubbed 'Million Barrel Equivalent' (MBE).
