Ofgem has awarded Imera Power licenses to build two underwater interconnectors between the Republic of Ireland and Wales. The East-West 1 and 2 interconnectors are 350 MW high voltage direct current cables that could help meet growing power demand in Ireland. The first project, known as EW1, could come online with initial capacity by 2010. It would also enable Ireland to export renewable power in the future.
