British Energy has announced that it has signed transmission agreements with National Grid for four new nuclear power stations in the south of England. In a press release issued late last month, British Energy said that it had entered into transmission connection agreements with National Grid for four power projects totalling 8.25 GW that are to be located on existing power station sites. British Energy has applied for transmission capacity for the following planned plant: a 1.65-GW plant called Bradwell B, a 1.65-GW plant called Dungeness C, a 3.3-GW plant called Hinkley Point C and a 1.65-GW plant called Sizewell C. BE currently operates reactors on three of the four sites: Sizewell, Dungeness and Hinkley. Although the Bradwell plant closed in 2003, and is now run by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, British Energy owns land adjacent to the old reactor.
