A senior representative of the UK's steel industry has warned that the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) could damage the sector's competitiveness in its Phase 3 period, and has called for changes to the way steel companies are granted allowances. In an interview with Platts, Ian Rodgers, director of UK Steel - a division of the UK manufacturer's organization EEF - said his industry is worried about rising costs of steel production, driven by the expected need to buy.EU emission Allowances (EUAs) in the EU ETS's Phase 3 period which begins in 2013.
