Over 15GW of gas-fired power station plant is set to be built in the UK over the next few years, according to the latest Platts Power UK Power Station Tracker. Despite current high gas prices, more combined cycle gas-fired (CCGT) power plant is being put forward by developers. For instance, this month EDF Energy announced that following the completion of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) relating to proposals to develop new CCGTs at the company's existing power station sites at West Burton and Sutton Bridge, it has now submitted its formal applications to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for Section 36 consent for the projects.
