Although it has led to a 'dash' to build wind projects the Renewables Obligation support mechanism has, so far, done relatively little to stimulate growth in marine and tidal projects in the UK. The UK Government acknowledges that the fruits of establishing a successful UK wave and tidal industry are significant. However, just how to stimulate such growth, given the limitations of current subsidy mechanisms, remains unclear.
