Carbon capture and storage (CCS) could play a major role in combating climate change and Britain can lead the world in developing this new technology, a UK parliamentary committee said this month. However, it warned that the UK government is not doing enough to implement the technology. In its report "Meeting the UK Energy and Climate Needs" the all-party Science and Technology Committee said the UK is struggling to meet its carbon dioxide reduction targets, while growing energy demand in countries such as China and India is "expected to fuel a dramatic, and potentially disastrous, increase in global emissions over coming years."
