摘要

When a review copy of a book called "All marketers are liars" plopped through the letterbox on the day images of Conservative Party leader David Cameron sledding in Norway were splashed across many UK newspapers, the word happenstance did not immediately spring to mind. But after digesting the contents of the slim marketing tome, the coincidence raised a smile in the Power UK office. Essentially, the book's author, Seth Godin, argues that consumers (rather than marketers) tell lies about themselves - who they are, who they aspire to be, etc - to justify their actions. Marketers can extract profits from customers by telling a story about a product that adds to their worldview. Essentially, it is about selling people what they want, rather than what they need.
