摘要

Perhaps not since the 1970s has energy had such a high profile in the national media. Global warming, security of supply, mis-selling and billing complaints have all contributed to energy matters edging up the political agenda over the last few years. However, rising retail energy prices seem to be dominating press coverage most recently. Since 2003, retail electricity prices have risen on average by 37% while retail gas prices have increased a staggering 57% - jumps that have effectively derailed this government's attempts to eliminate fuel poverty. Understandably, consumer representatives are less than happy on the current state of play of the market. Dr Dominic Maclaine asked energywatch's chief executive about his views on what should be done to better the lot of the UK's energy consumers.
