Scottish Power has launched a judicial review over Ofgem's decision to approve new transmission charges. The Scots say that the new charging methodology (which came into force on April 1) requires Scottish generators to pay "vastly more" in transmission charges than their English and Welsh competitors (Scottish generators will contribute 47% of total costs while accounting for only 13% of generating capacity). In a letter sent to Ofgem's Steve Smith on March 29, SP's lawyer, Shepherd and Wedderburn, says: "Consultant Nera estimated that each year Scottish generators will pay in excess of £50 million more than is justified on the basis of its alternative estimate of properly cost-reflective charges. That is £1 million per week."
