Finance leasing for wind farms in the UK "will become impossible" under proposed changes to UK tax law, which would undermine independent wind energy developers, Paul Turner of Atlas Equipment Finance, said last month at a meeting in London, writes David R Jones. Speaking at an offshore wind conference sponsored by the British Wind Energy Association, Turner said that a recently published Inland Revenue Technical Note would make major changes to so-called big-ticket finance leasing. "The net effect would be to tilt the playing field in favor of big utilities and away from independent developers," he said, and encouraged audience members to make their opposition to the proposed changes clear to Inland Revenue and the Department of Trade and Industry.
