Europe faces a difficult task if it is to meet its midterm climate change goals, the European Environment Agency warned in a report released in late November. In its report - The European environment - State and outlook 2005 - the EEA said efforts to combat the threat of climate change need to be strengthened. "In the short term, the ED is broadly on track to meet its Kyoto targets as a result of the ED emissions trading scheme and other measures including the European climate change programme. However, its mid-term goal for 2020 - a 15 to 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels - will be more difficult to achieve," the Copenhagen-based agency said.
