British Energy's latest set of results have shown an improvement in the company's fortunes thanks to increased output and cost cutting . In December, BE announced an interim pre-tax loss of ￡71m - compared to a ￡337m loss reported a year ago. The group has benefited from increased output but also showed improved cost control, with operating costs on continuing activities before exceptionals falling ￡40m, mainly due to lower depreciation costs, following an asset writedown in March. Operating cash outflow after capital expenditure has dropped from ￡71m a year ago to ￡26m.
