Prices in the power market were unmoved by National Grid Transco's latest forecast on winter power plant margin, released earlier this week. Baseload prices for December were trading around the £36/MWh days before the report's release. By the day of the report (October 20) prices edged down to between £34/MWh and £35/MWh. This is perhaps unsurprising because NGT's overall assessment is broadly the same as the one in its May preliminary winter outlook report. NGT's analysis suggests that security of supply can be maintained this winter in both electricity and gas under average and severe winter conditions.
