摘要

Iconic designer Milton Glaser has spent most of his life solving design problems, but none compare to the one he says he faces now: how to move a planet of bustling beings to awareness of the gravest threat mankind has ever faced-global warming. Glaser believes this to be an issue that impacts us all. But the reality of communicating that to the public involves breaking into their consciousness, and for that, one needs the right approach. "The most difficult thing for us to deal with is our own narcissism," Glaser says. "And the ability to be empathetic, which is essential for human survival, is diminished by that characteristic." Thus he arrived at the notion of a button, one representative of Earth wrapped in darkness, save a sliver of diminishing light, and with it, the slogan, "It's not warming, it's dying." The button works as visual evidence that people care, plucking the issue of global warming from the realm of conversation and plunging it into hearts and minds-hopefully spurring a reaction. And the beginning of that process, Glaser says, is acknowledgine that the issues exists.
