This article reviews the effect of resource wealth on the character of Kazakhstan's economic development. Despite the active economic changes of the 2000s, resource abundance has negatively affected the quality of the country's current economic growth. The country exhibits considerable structural, territorial, and social disparities, and the international competitiveness of many of its products (even some primary products) is low.
