This article by the editor in chief of EKO appeared as an introduction to the next seven articles published in this issue of Problems of Economic Transition. Every region and every business has to find its own way in the limitless sea of circumstances and solutions. The Soviet Union's way is unique and inimitable. Its experience in developing the oil and gas resources of the Ural-Volga region and Western Siberia and solutions for almost all of the scientific, technical, and organizational problems-from conquering space to creating and promoting goods and services-are unique.
