摘要

Recently, transborder cooperation between subjects of the Federation and adjacent territories has been regarded as an important aspect of Russia's economic development. In Russia, transborder cooperation is understood to mean any concerted action aimed at encouraging and strengthening relations between the Russian Federation and adjacent states for the purpose of ensuring the stable socioeco-nomic development of border territories. Such cooperation is, in our opinion, especially important today for the border regions of Russia and Kazakhstan, which account now for over 60 percent of the total annual trade turnover between the two countries, estimated by experts to have reached $5 billion. In view of the rapid economic development of the oblasts of the Republic of Kazakhstan that border on Astrakhan Oblast-especially of Atyrau Oblast, which is Kazakhstan's unofficial oil capital-it is in the interests of our oblast to strengthen multilateral relations with neighboring regions of Kazakhstan. Their potential market offers broad opportunities to the economic complex of Astrakhan Oblast.
