The strength of adhesively bonded bolt assemblies depends on various factors such as coating material, bolt diameter, pitch type, thread length, thread material match, surface finish, and pre-torque. In the current study, the effects of different coated bolts (uncoated steel, zinc, and zinc phosphated), three different bolt diameters, and coarse-fine pitch on breakloose, breakaway, and prevailing torques were experimentally investigated. The experiments were carried out for seated and unseated loading conditions. The highest breakloose and breakaway torque values were obtained in zinc phosphate coated bolts. On the other hand, the lowest value was obtained in non-coated bolt assemblies.
