摘要

Mitochondria serve as cellular power stations, fulfilling the energy demands of eukaryotic cells (Fig. P1 A-D, labeled in red). Mitochondria are not static organelles with fixed subcellular localization and size. To ensure that the energy needs of cells are met, mitochondria alter their morphology and are recruited to specific cellular compartments with higher energy consumption (1). Neurons, in particular, require a high-energy source during initial assembly and maintenance of neuronal networks.
