The field of split-brain research emerged in the early 1960s from studying patients whose corpora cal-losa had been severed as a drastic surgical treatment for intractable epilepsy. Today, researchers study dynamic interhemispheric communication with novel data analysis techniques such as network theory. In Michael Gazzaniga's Inaugural Article, Karl Doron et al. (pp. 18661-18668) illustrate how neuroimaging techniques can be combined with network science to examine interhemispheric coordination in healthy human volunteers.
