摘要

So far in 2012, many areas like the Midwest have enjoyed a mild, relatively snowless winter, followed by an extraordinarily early spring. Meteorologically, the calendar said "winter," at least until earlier this week, while plants budded and bloomed as though it was mid-to-late spring. Here in the Chicago area, my magnolia tree, which normally blooms in early May, is already winding down its spring show, and the azaleas are ready to burst open. What does this unusual weather pattern mean for manufacturing? In the Midwest, consumers are demanding products much earlier than they are normally brought to market. Eventually, the supply and demand will balance out; after all, these goods are scheduled to be delivered to the area, just not this early. But those best able to adjust and adapt their delivery plan to meet the current conditions - as they exist rather than strictly to the plan - will be best positioned to demand top prices for their goods.
