During the first energy crisis in the '70s, homeowners, businesses and manufacturers explored ways to reduce their energy costs by installing "green" technologies such as solar heating panels. I remember being fascinated by a newly constructed home, the front of which was completely covered by solar panels. Likewise, manufacturers tried alternate fuels, additives and other techniques to reduce their energy consumption. While many of those state-of-the-art implementations have transformed into passe relics in the intervening 35 years, the concepts that inspired them have been re-embraced. Green is hot again, and in 2009, that means good things for heat processing operations.
