Two companies have submitted proposals to the Crown Estate for the first round of leasing in the Pentland Firth to develop tidal stream energy systems.rnMarine Current Turbines and Atlantis Resources have each drawn up plans to deliver 300MW of tidal power by 2020.rnA two-year trial must take place before the Crown Estate issues a licence for further deployment of the systems.rnMarine Current Turbines is the only marine energy developer to have secured leases from the Crown Estate - for its 300kW SeaFlow off Lynmouth, Devon, and for thern1.2MW SeaGen in Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland.
