"Management is finally hitting the policy agenda. The autumn has seen a whole spate of reports linking the UK's poor position in the international productivity tables to management failings." Those were my opening words in one of my first policy columns for Professional Manager back in November 2002. Yet, roll on 16 years and the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy is in its latest consultation seeking evidence on what drives 'business productivity' - with a key focus being the role of management and leadership. Do we need yet another review? Unfortunately, we do, if only to raise management up the national agenda yet again.
