Interested in elevating safety commitment and performance by stimulating personal responsi bility? Consider leading a do-it-yourself (DIY) ap proach to safety. When done well, this is a proven way to gear up engagement by tapping into workers' natural motivations. DIY also dovetails especially well with thinning company resources. A DIY approach is founded on personal involve ment and inclination, "I can take care of myself." Wise leaders can tap into this pervasive interest by providing opportunities, skill sets and tool sets for workers to own more aspects of their own safety.
