The law of diminishing returns has been described as one of the most famous laws in all of economics (Samuelson & Nordhaus, 2001, p. 110). The law states "that we will get less and less extra output when we add additional doses of an input while holding other inputs fixed." Perhaps something similar to this is happening to some safety programs. I believe we are now-or soon will be-seeing diminishing returns on the use of certain safety equipment. It happens when we overuse specific PPE so much that its original safety factor is reduced or diminished rather than increased.
