NFPA's Life Safety Code is now required to be in all state homes that receive a per diem for providing nursing care to eligible veterans. Required by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the new regulation hopes to ensure that such facilities are up-to-date with life and fire safety standards. All facilities will need to transition from the 2006 edition of NFPA 101 to the 2009 edition. NFPA says its next edition will be ready in 2012.
