April 22, 2010, was the deadline for renovation firms and contractors to become lead-safe certified. EPA reports more than 125,000 contractors followed suitrnwith the new federal rule. The Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule requires contractors to become lead-safe certified, and they also must achieve certification through accredited trainers and follow specific work practice standards.
